LICHANOS, s. f. est en Musique le nom que donnoient les Grecs à la troisieme corde de chacun de leurs deux premieres tétracordes; parce que cette troisieme corde se touchoit de l'index. Lichanos, dit Boëce, idcirco, quoniam Lichanos dicitur, quem nos indicem vocamus.
La troisieme corde à l'aigu, du plus bas tétracorde
qui étoit celui des hypates, s'appelloit quelquefois
lichanos hypaton, quelquefois hypaton diatonos,
enharmonios, ou cromatiké, selon le genre. Celle du
second tétracorde, ou du tétracorde des moyennes,
s'appelloit lichanos meson, ou meson diatonos, &c.
