GAILLAC, Galliacum, (Géogr.) petite ville du haut Languedoc dans l'Albigeois, assez remarquable par le commerce de ses vins, & plus èncore par son abbaye de Bénédictins, dont on ne trouve cependant aucune mention avant l'an 972. Cette abbaye sut sécularisée en 1536, & forme à présent un chapitre. La ville de Gaillac est sur le Tarn, à 3 lieues O. d'Albi, 6 N. de Lavaur. Long. 19. 30. lat. 43d. 50'. (D. J.)
