ECHARPÉ, adj. se dit dans l'Art militaire, pour avoir beaucoup souffert, ou beaucoup perdu par le feu ou le fer de l'ennemi. Ainsi l'on dit, un tel ré<-> giment fut écharpé dans une telle bataille, un tel com<-> bat, &c. lorsqu'il y a fait une grande perte.

On dit aussi qu'un ouvrage est écharpé, lorsqu'il peut être battu par un angle moindre que 20 degrés. Voyez Batterie d'Echarpe. Les flancs du comte de Pagan, qui font un angle de plus de 100 degrés avec la courtine, peuvent être écharpés du chemin [p. 243] couvert, opposé au bastion auquel ils appartiennent.
