OBSTINATION, s. f. (Gramm.) volonté permanente de faire quelque chose de déraisonnable. L'obstination est un vice qui tient au caractere natu<cb-> rel & au défaut de connoissances. Si on se donnoit le tems d'entendre, de regarder & de voir, on se départiroit d'un projet insensé; on ne formeroit pas ce projet si l'on étoit plus éclairé. Il y a des hommes qui voyent moins d'inconvénient à faire le mal qu'à revenir sur leurs pas. On dit que la fortune s'obstine à poursuivre un homme, qu'il ne faut pas obstiner les enfans; en ce fens, obstiner signifie s'opposer à leurs volontés sans aucun motif raisonnable.
