NEFASTE, jour nefaste, dies nefaslus, (Hist. anc.) Les Romains appelloient dies nefasti les jours où il n'etoit pas permis de rendre la justice ou de tenir des assemblées, & où le préteur ne pouvoit prononcer les trois mots ou formules de justice, do, dico, addico, je donne, j'appointe, j'adjuge. Ces jours étoient marqués dans le calendrier par la lettre N, & quelquefois par les deux lettres N. P. nefastus primo, qui signifioient qu'un tel jour n'étoit [p. 72] nefastus que le matin. Voyez Jours heureux & malheureux. (O)
