LUPERCAL, s. m. (Littér.) nom de la grotte où la fable dit que Rémus & Romulus avoient été alaités par une louve. Cette grotte étoit au pié du mont Palatin, près de l'endroit où Evandre, natif d'Arcadie, avoit long - tems auparavant bâti un temple au dieu Pan, & établi les lycées ou les lupercales en son honneur. Ce temple prit ensuite le nom de lupercal, & les luperques instituées par Romulus, continuerent d'y faire leurs sacrifices au même dieu.
