LOURD, adj. (Gramm.) terme relatif à la pesanteur; il en marque la quantité ou plutôt l'excès. On dit ce fardeau est lourd. L'or est le plus lourd de tous les métaux: voilà ses acceptions physiques. En morale, on dit d'un homme qui n'a nulle finesse, ni d'idées, ni d'expressions, qu'il est lourd; & qu'une plaisanterie lourde est tout - à - fait insupportable.
