LIESSIES, Loetitia, (Géog.) petite ville, ou plutôt bourg du Hainaut, remarquable par son abbaye de Bénédictins, fondée en 751. Ce lieu a pris son nom des peuples qu'on nommoit Loeti, & qui faisoient une partie des Nerviens. Liessies est sur la petite riviere d'Hespres, diocèse de Cambray, à 4 lieues de Maubeuge, & à 8 lieues S. de Mons. Long. 21. 34. lat. 50. 18. (D. J.)
