IDÉAL, adj. (Gramm.) qui est d'idée. On demande d'un tableau si le sujet en est historique ou idéal; d'où l'on voit qu'idéal s'oppose à réel. On dit c'est un homme idéal, pour désigner le caractere chimérique de son esprit; c'est un personnage idéal, pour marquer que c'est une fiction, & non un être qui ait existé; sa philosophie est toute idéale, par opposition à la philosophie d'observations & d'expérience.
