Camden dans sa Britannia, dit que le comté de Flint est du ressort de la jurisdiction de Chester: comitatus Flint pertinet ad gladium Cestrioe; & Selden, tit. des honneurs pag 640. Curiam suam liberam de omnibus placitis, &c. exceptis ad gladium ejus pertinentibus.

Quand on crée un comte en Angleterre, il est probable qu'on le ceint d'un glaive pour signifier par cette cérémonie qu'il a jurisdiction sur le pays dont il porte le nom. Voyez Comie. Chambers.
