Emboutir, terme de Ferblantier; c'est faire prendre à un morceau de fer - blanc, taillé en rond, la forme d'une demi - boule, comme, par exemple, les couvercles des caffetieres, des lampes, des poivrieres, &c. ce qui se fait en frappant avec les marteaux propres aux différens ouvrages (voyez les figures, Planc. du Ferblantier). Le premier est un marteau à emboutir; le second, le marteau à emboutir en boudin; le troisieme, le marteau à emboutir en pointe de diamant.
