* COLLYRIDIENS, sub. m. pl. (Hist eccl.) anciens hérétiques qui portoient à la Vierge un hommage outré & superstitieux; saint Epiphane qui en fait mention, dit que des femmes d'Arabie entêtées [p. 643] du Collyridianisme s'assembloient un jour de l'année pour rendre à la Vierge leur culte impertinent, qui consistoit principalement dans l'offrande d'un gâteau qu'elles mangeoient ensuite en son nom. Le nom Collyridien vient du mot Grec collyre, petit pain ou gâteau.
