CIRCONSCRIPTION, s. f. (Géomet.) c'est l'action de circonscrire un cercle à un polygone, ou un polygone à un cercle, ou à toute figure courbe. V. Circonscrire.

La circonscription des polygones ne consiste que [p. 463] dans l'art de tirer des tangentes; car tous les côtés d'un polygone circonscrit à une courbe, sont des tangentes de cette courbe. Voyez Tangente. (E)
