* ADRIATIQUE, la mer (Géog.) c'est le golfe de Venise. Elle est appellée Adriatique, selon Strabon, du fleuve Adria.
Quelques Auteurs donnent encore le nom de mer Adriatique à celle qui est entre la Palestine & la Sicile. D'autres appellent la mer Phénicienne la mer Adriatique.
