Le fief appellé châtellenage consistoit en la garde & gouvernement d'un château, pour le comte laïc ou ecclésiastique propriétaire de ce château, avec un domaine considérable qui y étoit attaché; la seigneurie & toute justice dans ce domaine, & encore la suzeraineté sur plusieurs vassaux.
