CHENAL, s. m. (Hydraulique.) c'est un courant d'eau en forme dé canal, bordé le plus souvent des deux côtés de terres coupées en talus, & quelque fois revétu de murs. Le chenal sert à faire entrer un bâtiment de mer ou de riviere dans le bassin d'une écluse. (K)
