CHEMAGE ou CHINAGE, s. m. (Jurispr.) est un droit de péage qui se paye à Sens pour les charrettes qui passent dans les bois. Ce droit doit être fort ancien, puisque l'on trouve dès l'an 1387, un arrêt du 18 Avril qui en exempte l'abbaye de saint Pierre de Sens. Gloss. de Lauriere au mot chemage. Il en est aussi parlé dans les lois d'Angleterre, chart. de forest, an. 9. Henri III. ch. xjv. où il est appellé chimagium. (A)
