* CAUDICAIRES, sub. m. pl. (Hist. anc.) c'est ainsi que les Romains avoient nommé les bateliers de la communauté instituée pour la navigation du Tibre. Ce mot vient de codices, assemblages de plusieurs planches de bois. Parmi les caudicaires il y en avoit un certain nombre d'employés à charger les grains au port d'Ostie & à les conduire à Rome.
