(Hist. mod.) pénitens Indiens qui passoient toute leur vie nuds, laissoient croître scrupuleusement leurs cheveux & leurs ongles, & portoient partout une écuelle de terre pendue à leur cou: lorsqu'ils étoient pressés de la faim ils s'arrêtoient aux portes, & on remplissoit leur écuelle de riz cuit. Ces especes de gueux étoient très communs dans l'Inde pendant le ixe siecle.
